Methodology

This calculator estimates NUS CAP using the standard 5.0 letter-grade point mapping for graded modules.

Grade points

The current mapping used by the app is A+/A = 5.0, A- = 4.5, B+ = 4.0, B = 3.5, B- = 3.0, C+ = 2.5, C = 2.0, D+ = 1.5, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0.

Weighted average

For each graded module, the calculator multiplies the grade point by the assigned modular credits, then divides the total by the sum of graded modular credits.

Excluded results

S/U and other non-grade-point outcomes such as CS, CU, EXE, IC, IP, W, WU, and I are excluded from the CAP calculation in the app.

Transcript parsing

The parser attempts to extract course codes, titles, grades, modular credits, and semester grouping from an unofficial NUS transcript PDF. Parsed results should be reviewed manually because document layouts and edge cases can vary.
